Art in the Sky
Freedom Air and the Gold Coast’s Warner Bros. Movie World joined forces in a unique and creative way to promote the Gold Coast as a holiday destination to New Zealanders and in March 2004, launched a design competition of epic proportions known as ‘Art in the Sky.
In the first collaborative competition of its kind, Art in the Sky offered New Zealand residents the chance to create a design to appear on Freedom Air’s new Airbus A320 aircraft. Entrants were required to design the decal for the sides of the new aircraft based around the theme of ‘holidays’ and Warner Bros. Movie World (part of the Warner Village Theme Park Group) – situated at one of Freedom Air’s favourite destinations, the Gold Coast.
The unveiling of the winning design took place on 5 August 2004. 17 year old art student Ché Ridland from New Plymouth was the winner of the ART IN THE SKY competition. Che’s design will be on the A320 Airbus for three years.
"The Wayne Dodge"
Wayne Dodge was the General Manager of Freedom Air from 1997-2004. Wayne was well respected within the airline and travel industry and steered the direction and growth of Freedom Air for many years. As a fitting tribute to Wayne, we’re please to name our latest Airbus after him. OJO will be flying from 30 March 2006, so keep an eye out for the new decal which is located on the door as you enter the aircraft.
